FREAKSHOW FOOD RECIPE
“BRAAAAAINZ!” DESSERT
First you need a mold. Follow the link below or just search Amazon or the web for “brain jello mold.” Wash the inside using a soft sponge, dish soap, and warm water before each use, being careful to avoid puncturing any thin areas of plastic. Dry it thoroughly before use.
To prepare for your session, get some frozen strawberries, thaw them and puree them so the’re smooth, and re-freeze in a small baggie or in ice cube trays. You’ll also need three large 6-ounce boxes of peach or watermelon gelatin, and a 12 ounce can of lite evaporated skimmed milk (99.5% fat-free), reserving the rest of the can. No other milk will work! It has to be skimmed, it has to be canned, and it’s not the same as sweetened condensed milk.
Spray the mold inside with a small amount of vegetable oil or cooking spray. Mix one box of the gelatin according to package directions, Reserve the two other boxes for later. When it’s mixed, add 1/3 the can of milk, and adjust the color with a few drops of green food coloring and mix well. Make a support for the mold out of a rolled-up towel, so the round mold will sit flat on your counter – alternatively, you might have a bowl of a size that the mold will fit into without rocking.
Pour about 1/3 of the mold full of the jello mixture and chill until set. Remember, setting jello takes time, a number of hours.
Once the molded jello is set firm, lay in the frozen strawberries, prepare the remaining two boxes of jello adding the reserved milk, adjust the color pour into the mold to surround the frozen block of “blood” and chill the whole mold until set firm. To unmold, you might need to warm the outside of the mold just a bit in a bowl of hot tap water, then turn upside down on your serving plate and tap if necessary. With a bit of urging, you’ll have a quivering flesh-colored brain on your plate, ready to spout oozing blood when served. Voila! Admire your masterpiece, and wait for the delighted compliments when your loving family enjoys their special holiday dessert!
